Composer's Biography
Artur Andrzej Cieślak
Artur Andrzej Cieślak is a Polish composer and pianist, born in 1968 in Szczecin. He first studied piano with Regina Smendzianka and Jerzy Romaniuk at the Academy of Music in Warsaw (1987-1992). He subsequently studied composition with Jan Astriab, privately at first and then at the Music Academy in Poznań (1998-2003). He has continued his compositional studies under the guidance of Marian Borkowski at the Warsaw Music Academy (postgraduate studies in composition - diploma in 2008). In the early stage of his career, he scored many successes as a pianist. In mid 1990s he devoted himself almost exclusively to composition. In 2003 he made his international debut with “reminiscence” and “sonata for saxophone and piano” performed during the 13th World Saxophone Congress in Minneapolis (USA). His works have been featured at the Laboratory of Contemporary Music in Warsaw, at the Festival of Modern Polish Music “Musica Polonica Nova” in Wroclaw, at the International Festival From Chopin to Gsrecki - Sources and Inspirations in Warsaw, at the Musical Seasons series concert of the Polish Composers Association, at the International Saxophone Festival in Szczecin, Spring Guitar Concerts in Szczecin, as well as concerts in Poland, Belgium, Germany and USA. His “sonata for clarinet and piano” won the 1st prize at the National Composers Competition to mark the 80’s Anniversary of the Music Academy in Poznaρ (2000).
