Composer's Biography
Karzan Mahmood
Karzan Mahmood was born in Sulaimani in 1981. He studied music at an arts college for 4 years. He had a solid background in Kurdish folk music, and he conducted a small Kurdic ensemble for 5 years (The Garian Ensemble), in which he also played the Tar, the Zab, and the Daff, and other oriental instruments. He played as a soloist with different ensembles and orchestras like The Washington Symphony Orchestra, The Iraque Symphony Orchestra, The Kurdistan Symphony Orchestra and others. In 2003 he did his first attempts to compose music on his own. His first works were of the western classical music style. In 2005, he moved to Sweden, and applied to attend the composition program at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and was accepted. He is now studying composition with professor Par Lindgren, and works as a music teacher at the so called Culture School.
