Livia Lin
Composer, audio engineer and concert pianist, Livia Lin, is a passionate and multi-talented musician, and has won much recognition for her dynamic and sophisticated musical style. A native of Hong Kong, Lin attained Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music in Piano Performance with Distinction. Lin graduated in 2008 with Magna Cum Laude (B.M.) from the Berklee College of Music in dual major, Music Production & Engineering and Film Scoring. Lin is currently pursuing her M.A. in music composition at Tufts University, studying with Prof. John McDonald. A distinguished pianist from a very young age, Lin was picked by the acclaimed piano teacher, Mr. Liu Shih Kun, to appear in an educational video when she was about 10. She has also studied piano performance with other acclaimed pianists, including Gabriel Kwok, Sylvia Shum in Hong Kong and Alla Cohen in the United States. Lin's love for music does not stop at piano performing. While studying audio engineering, Lin took composition lessons with Alla Cohen and Jim Smith. Having been an active Chinese tribal dancer with the Hong Kong Bauhinia Dance Association for almost 10 years, her wide interest in and exposure to different cultures, art forms and music were significant inspirations and influences to Lin's music. In 2006, her piece "Chromatic Disturbance" for woodwind trio received Honorable Mention in the young artist composition competition by the Music Teachers National Association. Lin is also one of the finalists in the International Music Prizes for Composition 2009. Lin's distinguished sense of classical music has also earned her high acclaims for her engineering work with clients, including the Composition Department of Berklee College of Music and Cambridge Community Chorus of Cambridge, MA.
